Technique of the Week: Next Level Embossing Folder Christmas Card

It's time to break out the embossing folders again! This week we got in 5 different Next Level embossing folders by We Are Memory Keepers. These folders are really unique, in that the embossing is not just on one level. The result you get with them is absolutely beautiful.

We have some cards and samples in the shop to show you how each of these folders look, but I thought I would also make a card for this post to show you.


You get two different embossing folders in each set. The one I used here is called "Quilted."

If you have a Big Shot, the sandwich is a little different using these folders than with traditional embossing folders. You put your cardstock inside the folder, and there is a grid printed on the outside to make sure you place it in straight. The sandwich I used was the base plate with NO tab opened; metal shim; (if you don't have a metal shim, you can try shimming with cardstock, but you should really acquire one of these essential tools. We have one in stock, and more coming from Memory Box). I placed the folder with the cardstock onto the metal shim and ONE cutting plate on top of that. These folders are thicker than traditional embossing folders, so one cutting plate is sufficient. You may want to experiment with placing an additional piece of cardstock on top for more shim, depending on how deep of an emboss you get.


I embossed a panel (4" x 5.25") of So Silk Beauty Pink cardstock using one of the "Quilted" embossing folders, and stuck it down to a base card using score tape. You need a heavy duty tape to ensure that your panel sticks down properly. 

I chose a die to add the sentiment, "Jingle all the Way", which is a new die that we just got in from Penny Black. I cut this out of white cardstock that had Stick-it adhesive adhered to the back. (we just got in lots more of the Stick-it adhesive also, which is perfect for die cuts). I added some of the new sequins we just got in for sparkle, and the card is finished!
